Southern rock grew up in Jacksonville. Ronnie Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd came up on the city's Westside. Duane Allman pulled the Allman Brothers Band together in a house on Riverside Avenue in 1969. 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and Blackfoot followed, and years later Derek Trucks and JJ Grey carried the sound to a new generation.
Four Barrel comes out of that same ground. The band got its start in Callahan, a small town just north of the city, and plays Southern rock the way Jacksonville always has: loud guitars with the blues running underneath. Shawn Copher writes the songs and fronts the band. Wolfgang Constantin plays lead guitar, Ren Beazley holds down the bass, and Duane Washburn plays drums.
The genre never died. Blackberry Smoke and Whiskey Myers have spent years proving how big the audience still is, and Four Barrel is part of the next wave coming up behind them. Southern Grunge, their six-song EP from October 2025, takes the swamp-rock sound of Dirty Swamp Music and turns up the dirt.
